Taxi drivers in Accra should be made to wear a uniform with their names and the emblem of the GPRTU on it and also a form of identity and other details of the driver and the Taxi made available in the car.

Taxi drivers and Taxis in the Capital should all belong to a particular union or stations as done at the Airport, which will make identifying them very easy when something goes wrong. In the quest to ensure this, certain materials like ID cards, station name, type of car etc should all be available in the car so passengers can take note of while in the taxi.

Since commuters are often in haste and usually don’t have time to take sight of car numbers, it is very imperative for authorities to ensure drivers have the numbers of their cars boldly on the windscreen as done for the stickers of vat and income tax etc. This will help passengers who seldom forget their valuables and properties in taxis to locate it based on the information provided to claim what is theirs.

Securing the security of citizens, should not only deal with, lawmakers ensuring the effective execution of laws. But safety of those who board Taxis should also be considered. Over the years many Ghanaians and foreigners have lost their properties in one way the other for failing to identify and locate the taxi. One can imagine the emotional insecurity victims experience.

To ensure this initiative works, drivers should be given much education about the relevance of the initiative and the relief it will bring to citizens who board taxis. Failure to comply with the set standards should attract penalties or fines. Passengers as well should be advice to take heed of the information made available in the car.
This will help check the many people who lose their valuables properties to Taxis.
